Rams fall to undefeated Nipissing in North Bay

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Rams women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Nipissing Lakers in the two-game series opener Friday afternoon.

The loss lowers the Rams' record to 1-2-0, while Nipissing remains undefeated in their first four games of the season.

The teams wasted no time in the first half. Within the first fifteen minutes, both the Rams and the Lakers had attempted to open scoring with one shot each, all of which were saved by goalies Elisa Lapadula and Mykaela Volpe.

The remainder of the half saw Nipissing's heavy offense asserting their dominance on the pitch, creating chances at the net against a struggling Rams defense. Nonetheless, Lapadula managed to block five opponent shots at the net, keeping the game scoreless at the end of the first half.

Both teams came back hungry for the start of the second half, with several shots at goal and an aggressive number of penalties on both teams by the 55-minute mark. The following half hour saw another offensive push from Nipissing, as they created opportunities for six shots at the net.

Despite Lapadula's stellar goalkeeping performance throughout the game, Nipissing's Ashley Mlinaric opened the scoring with less than 15 minutes left in the game. The midfielder shot off a corner kick right into the net, giving the Lakers the first goal of the game and a 1-0 lead. The Rams were unable to match the goal in the remaining time, and the game ended with Nipissing adding another win to their now 4-0-0 season record.

Tomorrow, the Rams will take the day to recharge before heading back home to even the series at Downsview Park on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m and the game will be open to fans for viewing in-person.
