Rams keep playoff hopes alive with narrow victory against Voyageurs

SUDBURY, Ont. — Rolling into Sudbury in desperate need of a win to stay alive in the race for the postseason, the Rams women's soccer team bested the Laurentian Voyageurs by a score of 1-0 in the first game of their two-match weekend series. It was the team's third straight match in which they earned at least a point and vaulted them to a total of 10 on the season.

Their quest to remain competitive began modestly, with a scoreless first half that featured chances by Shea Jeffery-Novak and Jade Vyfhuis

Eventually, the Rams broke through in the 55th minute when a Laurentian clearing attempt bounced off Jessica Dodig, who notched her first goal of the season. Up to that point, Voyageurs goaltender Jocelyne Way had made four saves before the Rams took the lead.

Supported by goaltender Elisa Lapadula, who made three saves to thwart the Voyageurs offence, the Rams held on for their third victory of the season.

All in all, the victory marked the Rams' seventh win against Laurentian in program history, and their third all-time victory in Sudbury. The Rams will look to stay in the win column on Sunday, when they'll welcome the Voyageurs to Downsview Park for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
