TORONTO - After trouncing both the Nipissing Lakers and Algoma Thunderbirds in two-game sets, the Rams men's soccer team will travel to Sudbury on Friday for the first of two matches against the middling Laurentian Voyageurs.
The two weekend matches will be the team's only regular season tilts against the Voyageurs and the penultimate series of their regular season.
Entering the set against Laurentian, the Rams sit in first place of the OUA Central division, two points ahead of the McMaster Marauders and five points ahead of the Toronto Varsity Blues. Thus far, the team has dropped but one match—the season's second game against the Varsity Blues—and has the second best record in the entire OUA, trailing only the OUA East's Carleton Ravens.
As the Rams hope to continue their hot streak, midfielders Justin Santos and Abdallah El-Chanti - who have combined to score seven goals in the team's last four matches - are poised to be key parts of their attack, so too are Jacob Carlos, Christian Westlaken, and Zakaria Abdi, the latter of whom scored twice in Sunday's game against Algoma. Defensively, Filip Prostran and his staff will likely lean on Kai Martin, who has been an anchor to their backfield.
In 31 games against Laurentian in their history, the Rams own a stellar 21-7-3 record, with a 10-4-2 record in road games against the Voyageurs. The last time the two teams met was on October 6, 2019, when the Rams blanked the Voyageurs 3-0.
The first match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday before the teams return to Toronto to kickoff on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Downsview Park.
