SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The Rams men's soccer team had their best offensive output of the season on Saturday, defeating the Algoma Thunderbirds 5-1 on the road.
Justin Santos opened the scoring in the game's opening minutes, capitalizing on a misplayed ball in the box by the Algoma goalkeeper and slotting in his third of the season.
Jacob Carlos doubled the Rams' lead in the 17th minute when he headed home a cross from
Christian Westlaken.
The Thunderbirds got on the scoreboard late in the first half when Ethan Mendes de Franca converted on a penalty kick in the 39th minute, to make it a 2-1 score at half time.
The Rams added three goals in the second half from Zakaria Adbi,
Abdallah El-Chanti, and Azzan Sayed to stretch the advantage into a comfortable lead.
El-Chanti's goal was the 31st of his career, moving him atop the Rams all-time leaderboard.
Dante Ferraro got his first start in net, making four saves in the 90 minutes. He also had two strong clearances which set the offence up for success, including on Abdi's goal.
