Rams ready for first matchup with Thunderbirds

TORONTO - The Rams men's soccer team is heating up just in time for this weekend's series against the Algoma Thunderbirds. 

Coming off a doubleheader series sweep against the Nipissing Lakers, the Rams are 3-1 on the season and are looking to improve their record starting Saturday in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Rams offence has been the catalyst for the team's recent winning streak. Consistently creating chances at the net and dominating the pitch, this season's team has an average of 11.5 shots per game compared to their opponents average of 5.3. They also have a 1.5 goals-per-game average in contrast to their opponents' 1.0.

This weekend, fans should keep an eye out for Rams midfielder Abdallah El-Chanti, who has scored goals in three of four games this season, as well as midfielder Justin Santos and forward Zakaria Abdi, who both produced in the team's last series against Nipissing. 

The Thunderbirds, currently last in the division to the Rams' third place, have yet to win a game this year. Algoma has already conceded 30 goals in five games, something the Rams offence will seek to play to their advantage. 

The Rams share the same winning rate (0.750) as the division-leading McMaster Marauders, and another series sweep would award the team a second-place divisional standing. 

The Marauders currently rank first in the standings for their 24-5 goals for/against ratio, partially due to the whopping 14 total goals they racked up while playing Algoma.

The Rams will look to capitalize on opportunities at goal this weekend as well as they head up north to take their turn against the Thunderbirds. 

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
