Men's soccer announces El-Zair as first recruit

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men's soccer team is pleased to announce Ali El-Zair as their first recruit of the program's 2020 recruiting class.

El-Zair, a Mississauga, Ont. native, is set to study Business Technology Management at Ryerson and will join the team next season.

El-Zair has played in the last two League 1 Ontario seasons with Woodbridge FC (2017-18) and Aurora FC (2018-19), playing 29 total matches at that level. The left-winger/attacking midfielder has also featured for Real Sociedad Gimnastica Torrelavega in their 2016-17 title-winning season of Spain's fourth tier of league football.

"Ali is the type of student-athlete that can impact our program right away both on and off the field," said Rams head coach Filip Prostran. "His ability to impact the game with his athleticism and attacking ability instantly makes us a more dynamic team."

El-Zair chose Ryerson for the opportunities given in the program, saying, "Everyone is embraced and has a place to thrive at Ryerson."

A graduate of Stephen Lewis S.S in Mississauga, El-Zair was awarded the MVP on his school soccer team, as well as being an honor roll student.

"His attributes off the field such as his work ethic, academic commitment, and discipline helps add to our winning culture," adds Prostran.
