Rams look dominant in win over Algoma

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams wrapped up their last road trip of the regular season with a dominant 104-52 win over the Algoma Thunderbirds.

With just two games left this season, this win brings the Rams just one game back of OUA Central leaders, the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The Wolves have lost two straight games, whilst the Rams have now won 10 out of their last 11.

The Rams came out hard and held on to their lead for the entirety of the game. They led the Thunderbirds 23-10 after the first quarter.

Despite the Rams looking quite sloppy on offence in the second quarter, they still managed to pull together 30 points including a 13-0 run. They led 53-23 at the half.

Ryerson continued their strong defensive intensity as they held the Thunderbirds to just five points in the third quarter. The score was 82-30 after the quarter as it was Ryerson's biggest quarter win of the game.

Finally, the Rams saw the game out as it finished 104-52 in their ninth straight matchup victory against Algoma.

This was an excellent team win for the Rams, as twelve players contributed in points including a career-high for first year guard Tom Dumont (Montreuil, France) with 22. Fellow freshman guard Diar Alkaldy (Hamilton, Ont.) also scored his first-ever points as a Ram and finished with eight.

As a team, the Rams shot 51% (15-of-29) from three-point range and played impressive defence throughout the game.

This 14-6 Ryerson team will quickly flip the page and look forward to next weekend as they will take on the Nipissing Lakers and Laurentian Voyageurs. The Rams will be looking to extend their four-game winning streak and end their regular season strong on home court.
