Rams look to close out season on win streak

TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams host back-to-back games this weekend against Nipissing and Laurentian to close out the regular season.

On a four-game win streak and coming off of a dominant 104-52 win against the Algoma Thunderbirds, the Rams look to continue their win-streak for their final home games.

The Rams are currently two points behind the Lakehead Thunderwolves in the OUA central division and have the chance to clinch first if they win their last two games, and the Thunderwolves lose at least one of their remaining games.

The Rams host the Nipissing Lakers first on Friday evening. The Rams lead the all-time series between these two teams and have won the past eight matchups including a 96-60 win last season. Jayden Frederick (Scarborough, Ont.) and Keevon Small (Montreal, Que.) both had big games that night, with Frederick leading the team with 20 points, and Small getting a regular season career high of 15 points. The Lakers this season are 6-12 but have won three of their last four games, including their own win over the Thunderbirds. Still, the Rams are the better team on paper and the Lakers will have a tough time stopping the quick-fire offence of the Rams.

On Saturday the Rams will host the Laurentian Voyageurs. The Voyageurs lead the all-time series, and split the series last season, winning their last matchup 88-82. Both Frederick and Tanor Ngom (Dakar, Senegal) had a strong impact on the game, but foul trouble limited their minutes, and one of the best players in the league in Kadre Gray was quick to capitalize. Gray is in his fourth season with the Voyageurs this year and will prove to be a worthy opponent for the Rams once again, averaging 23.9 points per game with a 44.6 field goal percentage. The Voyageurs are 15-5 this season, winning their last five games and will be a tough matchup for the Rams. The Rams' shooters will need to be on their A-game and their defence will need to get key stops without fouling.

The Rams host the Lakers on Friday, February 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET and the No. 6 ranked Voyageurs on Senior Night on Saturday, February 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Watch the games live on OUA.tv.
