TORONTO – The No. 4 Ryerson Rams are back on home court this week as they face the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday and the No. 8 Brock Badgers on Saturday. This is the second time the Rams will be facing these teams this season.
Coming off a last-minute win against No. 5 Carleton, the Rams are itching to build their win streak. Action starts this week against the Marauders who they defeated in January by 38 points. On January 8, the Rams visited the defending champions and had no trouble stealing an 84-46 win.
Jama Bin-Edward (Waterloo, Ont.) led the team with 22 points and
Hayley Robertson (Toronto) added her own 20 points.
With Bin-Edward now out with an injury, the Rams will look to their leading scorers
Marin Scotten (Ottawa, Ont.), who had an exceptional game against the Ravens, and Robertson.
Another key piece of the Rams' January win was their defensive game. They recorded 51 rebounds, caused 18 turnovers, got eight steals and limited the Marauders three-point shooting and field goal shooting to the 20 percent range. Another strong defensive performance by the Rams on Wednesday will help solidify a win.
The Rams last played the Brock Badgers on October 26, 2019 - their first road game of the season. The Rams fell to the Badgers 68-58, breaking a five-game win streak against the Badgers. The game was evenly matched from the beginning with the Rams maintaining a one-point lead heading into the second half. A strong second half performance by the Badgers is what ultimately gave them the win.
Scotten, who is now averaging 16.1 points per game, only had 11 and Bin-Edward and
Stefanija Mrvaljevic (Mississauga, Ont.) added 10 points each. The Rams seem to be a stronger shooting team now than they were at the start of the season, but the Badgers are a good defensive team. With both defences being evenly matched, this important battle will come down to who can get their shots to fall.
Come down to Coca-Cola Court on Wednesday, January 29 for Pack the MAC against the Marauders at 6:00 p.m. ET. The Rams will play the Badgers on Saturday, February 1, also at 6:00 pm ET. As always, you can also live stream the games on OUA.tv.
