TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams got revenge on the Varsity Blues for their disappointing loss on November 27, 2019 with a 94-73 road win on Saturday night. A strong offensive performance and strong defensive showing in the fourth would give the Rams this big win.Â
The Rams won the tip and would get on the board first thanks to a
Tevaun Kokko (Markham, Ont.) finger roll. The Varsity Blues would eventually take the lead around the two-minute mark, but the game would be tied at 11 halfway through the quarter. The Rams would take back the lead as
Liam O'Leary-Orange (Toronto) hustled for the ball and passed it to an open Kokko for the easy layup. The Rams would take a four-point lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Rams would score first in the second as well, as
Tanor Ngom (Dakar, Senegal) converted a three-point play. On the next play, Ngom would get the put back with a two-handed slam. This was proving to be an evenly matched game as both teams traded shots and blocks. In the second half of the quarter, the Rams would go off as
Jayden Frederick (Scarborough, Ont.) would get back-to-back threes. The Varsity Blues would try to kill the momentum with their own three pointer by Evan Shadkami, but a three-quarter court buzzer-beater by Kokko would bring the Rams to their feet and on the court as they took a 10-point lead.
Fired up from his previous play, Kokko opened the scoring in the third with a three-point play. The third quarter would see some great plays by both teams. The Varsity Blues would add four three-pointers to their score from Shadkami, Christopher Barrett, and Daniel Johansson. The Rams on the other end, would see a dunk from Ngom and a huge last second play by O'Leary-Orange, who put back
Mouhamed Ndiaye's (Longueuil, Que.) layup to get back the double-digit lead.
The fourth would start off sloppy as both teams gave up turnovers. The Varsity Blues were hampered by their turnovers and would only score five points by the halfway mark while the Rams would get to a 15-point lead. Ryerson would continue scoring as Ndiaye got a three-pointer, and Kokko eclipsed the 30-point mark with a three-point play. A sloppy fourth quarter by the Varsity Blues allowed the Rams to run with the lead and gave them the 94-73 win.
The Rams are back at home on Friday, January 24Â with tip off at 8:00 p.m. ET against the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Watch the action live on OUA.tv.Â
