TORONTO – The No. 5 nationally ranked Ryerson Rams men's soccer team is ready to showcase its 2019 roster to their fans as the squad plays its first home games of the season this weekend.
After starting the season with a pair of victories on the road last week, the Rams are set to return to Downsview Park for matches on Saturday and Sunday.
The opponents will be familiar, as the two foes scheduled to challenge the Rams are the same Queen's and RMC teams Ryerson knocked off last week.
Ryerson's offence is looking strong and balanced to start the year, scoring nine goals in the opening two games with seven different players finding the back of the net. Third years Sean Fafinski (Toronto) and Muaz Saleh (Hamilton, Ont.) lead the way, both registering a pair of goals already this season.
Two first year players wasted no time scoring their first OUA goals as Mansoor Afzaly (Toronto) and Luca Di Marco (Aurora, Ont.) are both already on the board.
After opening weekend the Rams find themselves in a three-way tie with Carleton and Toronto for top spot in the OUA east division, while Queen's and RMC have both gone 0-2 to start the season. Ryerson will look to take advantage of the winless squads and stay unbeaten to start the year.
Fourth year defender Andrew Dias (Toronto) had a strong weekend helping anchor a backline that surrendered just one goal against. He also picked up two assists to help earn him Athlete of the Week honours.
The Rams open weekend action on Saturday, September 7 against the Queen's Gaels at 3:15 p.m. The following day Ryerson kicks off against the RMC Paladins at 3:15 p.m.
