TORONTO - The much-anticipated Toronto derby took place on a hot Sunday afternoon as the U SPORTS No. 5 Ryerson Rams drew 0-0 against the No. 7 Toronto Varsity Blues at Varsity Stadium.
With both teams sitting on five wins this season, the Rams and the Blues were facing their highest-ranked opponent so far this campaign.
The first half had an abundance of chances created, mainly by Rams forward
Abdallah El-Chanti (Toronto, Ont.) who hit the post early in the match, and Blues forward Atchu Sivananthan who recorded five shots in the first 45.
The Rams looked to have had the upper hand in the second half, dominating possession and creating more chances including Rams midfielder Mansoor Alfazy (Toronto, Ont.) hitting the woodwork early in the half.
"I thought second half we came out strong, dominated and took the game to them," said Rams goalkeeper
Ali Ghazanfari (Stouffville, Ont.) after his third clean-sheet of the season.
The defense seemed to have been the main force in the match, as Rams assistant coach
Kasy Kiarash expressed that "it was an amazing defensive display and good team spirit" and added "a result like this on the road coming off of a loss says a lot about the character of this team...We'll take this result".
The Rams and the Blues will face-off once again this Saturday at Downsview Park at 3:15 p.m.
