Rams extend win streak to three with win over Ontario Tech

TORONTO - The Rams were looking to extend their two-game win streak at Downsview Park against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Sunday afternoon.

It took little time for the Rams to get ahead after fourth-year forward Alex Rodkin (Whitby, Ont.) opened up the scoring in the third minute with a strike from distance. Ontario Tech followed with some pressure and a close-call with a missed penalty in the 20th minute.

The game opened up for both teams in the 25th minute when red cards were issued to one player on both teams.

Brooke Pearson (Whitby, Ont.) started the second half by scoring a header in the bottom corner, and Jade Vyfhuis (Markham, Ont.) followed with a goal from distance in the 72nd minute to put the Rams up 3-0.

"Throughout the whole game, there was a solid back-line. All of my confidence is in every one of these girls," says Rams goalkeeper Elisa Lapadula (Brampton, Ont.) whilst crediting her teammates for helping her secure her third clean sheet of the season.

Vyfhuis also showed excitement in her first OUA goal along with an assist, saying "I want to play for Ryerson so bad and help bring them to the top. I think there's a great future for us."

Head coach Natalie Bukovec expressed the importance of a high number of goals the girls have been able to score so far this season, saying, "Last year, scoring goals was the biggest thing we weren't able to do, we were 3rd in OUA for shots but could not capitalize. It's nice to see all the hard work the girls have put in in the summer and you can now see that we're a very forward-minded team".

The Rams look to secure their fourth straight win when they battle the Toronto Varsity Blues at Varsity Stadium on Sunday, September 22nd at 1 p.m.
