WATERLOO, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams men's volleyball team secured a five-set thriller (25-16, 25-21, 28-30, 23-25, 15-10) over the Waterloo Warriors on the road Saturday night.
The Rams ended their four-game road trip with a bounce-back win to give themselves a 3-2 record so far this season. After getting swept 3-0 the night before against the No. 9 Guelph Gryphons, the Rams showed a gutsy performance against the Warriors to keep them winless so far this season.Â
The Rams commanded the first set to win it 25-16 and silenced the home-opener crowd.Â
The second set was more of the same with the Rams outplaying Waterloo, and the Warriors continuing to let the Rams off the hook with a number of service errors and net violations. The Rams took the second set 25-21.Â
The Warriors did not go down easily and managed to stay within a few points the entire third set, finally pulling through, in the end, to win 30-28 in the third set.Â
This nail-biting set win gave the Warriors and the home crowd a lot of momentum going into the fourth, and it became apparent in their level of play. The Warriors offence through the middle was by far their biggest threat, with Ryerson not finding an answer for it all night. The Rams fell 25-23 in another tight set.
Despite losing two sets in a row and the Warriors carrying momentum, the Rams were resilient and level-headed going into the fifth set. After being down 8-5 at the technical timeout, the Rams came out of the break winning eight of nine points to take a 13-9 lead in the fifth. The Rams continued to execute in big moments to take the match 15-10 in the final set.Â
The Rams are set to return home and play just one next week. They will take on the Royal Military College on Friday, November 15 at 8 p.m. Make sure to catch the game on OUA.tv.Â
