Historic night for Green as Rams triumph over Ridgebacks

TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams hosted the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks Saturday night for their second meeting of the season. The Rams would win this game 4-2, with fifth-year captain Kryshanda Green (Brampton, Ont.) making history, becoming the all-time assists leader for the Rams.

"It's a nice privilege to have, but it wouldn't be possible without my teammates, their putting the pucks in the net, so I got to appreciate them," said Green.

The Rams were coming off a spectacular 6-0 win against the Queen's Gaels going into this game. With renewed confidence, the Rams maintained control of the game early on. Rams forward Karli Nummikoski (Thunder Bay, Ont.) would have a chance six minutes into the period with a breakaway, but the shot would deflect high. Both teams would go back-and-forth but with no solid chances. The Ridgebacks would get one up first at the 11-minute mark as forward Katona Goosney got a strong shot through an opening that got past Rams goalie Rachel Seeley (Ottawa, Ont.). The Ridgebacks would keep the lead at the end of the first period.

The second period would be all Rams as they not only tied the score but took a two goal lead. Forward Erika Crouse (Kirkland Lake, Ont.) would put the Rams on the board with a tip in off of a rebound in the 13th minute. Green would get credited with an assist, the one that would give her the all-time record with 38 assists.

"She's taken the ball and run with it really well," said head coach Lisa Haley on Green's career as a Ram. "She's a very dynamic player, there's so much to her game in terms of the speed, skill, tenacity, and scoring ability. Her leadership has also been a big part of her role here."

Forward Olivia Giardetti (Whitby, Ont.) would get the second goal around three minutes later, capitalizing on a nice pass by forward Ye Eun Park (Gangneung, Korea). Fifth-year defender Laura Ball (Toronto) would give the Rams a comfortable two-point lead with less than three minutes left in the period with an unassisted goal that should have been called the first time. Ball would shoot the puck from near the blue line into the net first but it wasn't credited as a goal, so she would do it again for the call.

The third would get scrappy as the Ridgebacks looked for ways to even up the score. They would get three consecutive penalties in the third alone. The Ridgebacks would eventually get within one with less than three minutes left to play on a goal by forward Alex Frigon, but an empty netter by Crouse in the last minute would seal the two goal win and give the Rams their second win of the weekend.

"I think we've got a little bit ahead of ourselves the last little bit," said Haley. "We had to really refocus and have a hard reset this weekend and it definitely worked. It felt like we earned all six points this weekend."

The Rams are back in action next weekend as they head north to face the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday, November 15th, and then the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday, November 16th, both at 7:30 p.m. ET. Watch the games live on OUA.tv
