Rams earn first road win of the season

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ryerson Rams headed to north Oshawa to face the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks for the first time in program history on Wednesday and the Rams got their first road win of the season with an 82-33 victory against the Ridgebacks.

The Rams won the tip off and maintained a steady possession throughout the first quarter. Ryerson opened up the scoring after a couple of missed chances with a turnover that led to an easy lay up by guard Marin Scotten (Ottawa, Ont.). The ball would go back and forth as both teams looked to find their rhythm, but the Rams would ultimately take an eight-point lead at the end of 10 minutes thanks in part to good offensive rebounding.

The Rams would amp up the pressure in the second quarter, completely shutting down the Ridgebacks offence while increasing their own. This was due, in part, to the Ridgebacks' two best players having to sit out due to foul trouble. The Rams went on a 27-4 run this quarter which included three back-to-back threes from forward Rachel Farwell (Rothesay, N.B.). The Ridgebacks trailed 45-14 at the half.

The third would go much down much like the second, with the Rams continuing to dominate. Guard Leyki Sorra (Toronto) would kick off the scoring with a three but would leave the game shortly after with some discomfort after landing awkwardly on her right ankle. In addition to their dominant offensive performance, the Rams were solid defensively. It took the Ridgebacks three quarters to get to 20 points, as the Rams continue to find ways to block their shots and force turnovers. The Rams headed to the fourth with a 44-point lead.

Scotten would once again open up the scoring for the Rams in the fourth with a three-pointer. The Ridgebacks would get a game-high 13-points in the fourth, but it would not be enough to snuff out the chasm that the Rams built. The Rams would win the game 82-33.

Forwards Emma Fraser (Toronto) and Farwell would get new career-highs in points as Fraser scored 15 points with six rebounds and two assists, and Farwell put up a team-leading 20 points and six rebounds.

The Rams head to Kingston next to face the Queen's Gaels for their last stop of this road trip. Tip off is at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday night. Watch the game live on OUA.tv.
