Rams win second straight road game

TORONTO – The Rams finished their road trip against the Queen's Gaels Saturday evening with a win. This was the Rams second straight road win as they improve to 2-2 on the road and 6-2 on the season.

The Rams would win the tip off and get the first points of the game as Bronwyn Williams (Toronto) recorded an easy jumper. The Gaels would answer back with a 5-0 run, leading 7-11 at the five-minute mark. That lead wouldn't stay for long as some threes by Jama Bin-Edward (Waterloo, Ont.), Marin Scotten (Ottawa, Ont.) and Haley Robertson (Toronto), as well as some good defence would give the Rams a 23-19 lead heading to the second.

The second quarter would show much back and forth, but the Rams were noticeably stronger defensively. Ryerson would lead by 14 at the five-minute mark. The Rams would go on a three-pointer spree, including two back-to-back from Scotten. In addition to a consistent offence, the Rams defence was exceptional. The Gaels would only be able to score six points by the end of the quarter.

The third would start with a Gaels possession but a block by Bin-Edward would give the Rams back the ball. The Rams would tone it down a bit in the third, scoring only 12 points but the Gaels definitely increased the pressure. Finding their own groove from beyond the arc, Queen's would outscore the Rams in the third, but would still trail 51-44 at the end of the quarter.

The Gaels would continue their push in the fourth getting to within three points early on. It did not help that the Rams were in foul trouble, with more than one player receiving four personal fouls. However, the Rams defence was so strong that they got back to a 10-point lead with five minutes left to play. The Rams would then take control of the last five minutes and finish with a seven-point lead.

The Rams out-rebounded the Gaels 47-37 which was huge advantage in the win. The Rams leading scorer was Scotten who ended up with a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Robertson would also get a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.

The Rams are back in action at home on Wednesday November 27th, for the Battle for the 6ix against the Toronto Varsity Blues. Tip off is at 6:00 pm.
