Game Recap: Basketball (M) | | Leah Diseris

Rams beat Ridgebacks for third straight win

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ryerson Rams encountered the new kids on the block, the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, Wednesday night for the first time in program history. The Rams would win their third straight game of the season 99-54, just one-point short of a triple-digit score.

Guard Jayden Frederick (Scarborough, Ont.) would put the Rams up on the board first with a quick and easy layup. The Rams welcomed back forward Tanor Ngom (Dakar, Senegal) this game and he would have an immediate impact getting a block which led to an offensive play. The Rams scored 16 unanswered points before the Ridgebacks got on the board. Ontario Tech's Graddy Kanku would get on the board first for the Ridgebacks and would have four of the six points of the quarter. The Rams would lead 24-6 at the end of 10 minutes.

Ridgebacks' Amar Hassan would get the first basket of the second. He would finish the game with eight points, 13 rebounds and four steals. Rams' Tevaun Kokko (Markham, Ont.) would be unstoppable this quarter going 3-3 from beyond the arc. Tom Dumont (Montreuil, France) would also go off this quarter scoring seven points for the Rams. The Rams would head to the half leading 50-15.

The Ridgebacks looked like a new team in the third quarter as they would score a game-high 25 points, hanging in there with the Rams who scored 31. A lot of those points coming from Kanku and AJ Cummings who both had 10 a piece. However, the sizeable lead that the Rams formed and a continuous offensive pressure would guarantee that they remain in the lead, and they did as they headed to the fourth leading 81-40.

Liam O'Leary-Orange (Toronto) would get the first two points of the fourth with a layup. He would also get back-to-back dunks later in the quarter. The Rams would cool off this quarter putting up only 18 points and allowing their bench to get some playing time. Forward Brandon Ramirez would come into the game and have a perfect shooting percentage. At this point, the Ridgebacks relied heavily on free throws, making 15-22, with Kanku going to the line 11 times, but the damage was already done. The Rams would take this game with ease with a final score of 99-54.

Dumont and Mouhamed Ndiaye (Longueuil, Que.) would both score career-highs in points as Dumont would score 16 and add three rebounds and assists, and Ndiaye would post 17 points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Rams are back in action on Saturday, November 23 in Kingston against the Queen's Gaels for the last leg of their road trip. Tip off is at 8:00 pm ET and the game will be broadcasted live on OUA.tv.
