Rams complete series sweep against Lakehead

TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams completed their series sweep against the Lakehead Thunderwolves Saturday evening. The Rams continued their game one dominance to take this game 74-45.

With some time to recover and regroup, Lakehead came out strong getting on the board first with a three from guard Kielly McDonough. The Thunderwolves would not hold the lead for long as the Rams began their offensive attack. Guard Marin Scotten (Ottawa, Ont.) would give the Rams their first points with an easy two. Guard Hayley Robertson (Toronto) would follow that up with a three-pointer. Lakehead definitely had a better start but it was not enough to maintain a lead. The Rams would take the first 18-8.

Lakehead's McDonough would continue her success from beyond the arc to start the second getting two back to back three-pointers. On the other side of the court, the Rams would also continue to rack up the points with threes from Taite Cleland (Ancaster, Ont.), Jama Bin-Edward (Waterloo, Ont.), and Leyki Sorra (Toronto). The Rams would lead 37-29 at the half.

"We were really focused on some defensive pieces," said head coach Carly Clarke. "We did a better job of taking care of the ball and making good decisions with it today."

The pace would continue in favour of the Rams throughout the second half. The Rams did a good job defensively, getting steals and blocks, and offensively, continuing to get good looks and put up shots.

By the fourth, the game is very much in the Rams' control. Despite a strong effort by the Thunderwolves, they fall 74-45. Off the bench Megan Looney would lead the Lakehead with 13 points, two assists, and eight rebounds. Rams guard Stefanija Mrvaljevic (Mississauga, Ont.) would lead the team with 14 points and five rebounds. It was a team effort for the Rams who had four players hit double-digit points.

"Teamwork is the most important thing," says Robertson. "We have a lot of really talented players and if you gave anyone free reign, anyone could go off for 30, 20 points, but that's not how you win championships, we need a championship level team."

The Rams are back in action Friday November 8th at home against the Windsor Lancers at 6:00 pm ET.
