Rams look to stay hot against OUA East opponents

TORONTO — After a 28-point win over the York Lions last Saturday, the Ryerson Rams are looking to stay hot this weekend as they head east to take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and the Queen's Gaels.

The Rams wrapped up their season series against York last Saturday on the road, pulling away in the second half with a 93-65 victory at the Tait McKenzie Centre. The Rams trailed by four heading into halftime but came back and dominated the Lions, outscoring their cross-town rivals 60-28 in the final 20 minutes of the matchup.

A 37-point performance by third-year guard Tevaun Kokko (Markham, Ont.) highlighted the team's efforts against York. Jayden Frederick (Scarborough, Ont.) also dropped 23 points against his former team, marking the fifth time in six games this season he's scored over 20.

The victory over York also marked the first time this season the Rams had earned back-to-back wins. The team will look to stay hot this weekend as they hit the road to face off against two OUA East opponents in the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and the Queen's Gaels.

Wednesday night sees the Rams travel to Oshawa to take on Ontario Tech. The Ridgebacks are in the midst of their inaugural OUA season which has heavily influenced their place in the standings of late. The team is 0-7 on the year, dropping most of their recent games by 20 or 30 points. The team's 36.5 percent field goal percentage ranks just one step below the Rams, who currently clock in at 15th in the league with a 37.9 FG percent. The Rams will need to stay strong around the rim and capitalize on their second-chance opportunities if they wish to take their fourth win of the season on Wednesday.

The team will then travel to Kingston on Saturday night to tip off against Queen's. The Gaels currently sit fourth in the OUA East with a 4-4 record on the year, but their place in the standings isn't necessarily indicative of their season thus far. The team has had a tough schedule to kick off the year, suffering losses to three nationally-ranked opponents including the No. 1 Carleton Ravens and the No. 3 Ottawa Gee-Gees. The Gaels are strong shooters from the field and will likely capitalize on any and all opportunities to put up points in the paint. Ryerson's anchors in Kokko and Frederick will need to come up big against Queen's if the Rams are to squeak by the underrated Gaels this weekend.

Both Wednesday and Saturday's games are set to begin at 8:00 p.m. and can be streamed live at OUA.tv.
