Game Recap: Basketball (W) | | Leah Diseris

Rams fall to Lions on the road

TORONTO – The Rams headed east Saturday night to face off against the York Lions for their second meeting of the season. Despite a dominating performance during their home opener against the Lions, the Rams would fall 67-52 on the road, giving them 0-2 away record.

The Lions would take control of the game early on in the first quarter as they kept the Rams scoreless for the first couple of minutes. The Lions would lead by six before the Rams finally got on the board with a layup from senior guard Hayley Robertson (Toronto). The Lions clearly learned from their first loss against the Rams and tightened up defensively, keeping the Rams at bay. The Rams could not seem to get their shots to fall despite some good looks. The Lions would lead by two points heading into the second.

Robertson would get the first bucket in the second quarter with a pull up shot. The Rams would look much better in the second as they took the lead early on. The Lions remained in the game though, continuing to press defensively, causing two turnovers in a row four minutes into the quarter. The Rams would lead 20-15 five minutes in but some foul trouble would give the Lions the push they needed to tie the game 26-26 heading to the half.

The Lions would take back control in the third, going on an 8-0 run to start the quarter. Robertson would put an end to that with a jumper and guard Stefanija Mrvaljevic (Mississauga, Ont.) would follow it up with a three pointer. Despite a spark in the Rams' offence, the Lions would retain a 36-30 lead halfway into the quarter. Rookie Taite Cleland (Ancaster, Ont.) would get another three for the Rams, but the Lions came prepared for the second half. Relentless both offensively and defensively, the Lions would take an 11-point lead into the fourth.

The Rams continued to fight hard in the last quarter of play, but it wouldn't be enough for them to take back the lead. The Lions were firing on all cylinders and were able to seal up the Rams' offence. The Lions also capitalized at the foul line, going 17-20.

Robertson would lead the team with 13 points, seven assists, and three rebounds. Meanwhile, on the York side, they would have three players reach double digit points, including Cyanna King who led the team with 20, including eight from the free throw line.

The Rams are back on the road against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Wednesday November 20th at 6:00 pm ET. Watch the game live on OUA.tv.
