TORONTO - Five different Ryerson Rams men's soccer players were named OUA All-Stars on Thursday afternoon, including three to the first team.
Goalkeeper
Ali Ghazanfari (Stouffville, Ont.) earned his first all-star recognition, landing on the OUA First-Team. Starting in 12 games, Ghazanfari had a stingy 0.72 goals against average and strong 0.818 save percentage this season, helping the Rams to a 10-2-2 regular season.
Senior defender
Andrew Dias (Toronto) also earned his first all-star recognition on the First-Team after a strong season on the pitch. Dias was instrumental on the Rams back line which allowed just ten goals against all season, third best in the OUA. He also created chances offensively, recording four assists in ten games played this season.
Rounding out the First-Team all-stars is captain
Abdallah El-Chanti (Toronto), making his second straight appearance among the conference's best. El-Chanti finished with a team-high six goals and eight total points this season, and was Ryerson's source of energy out on the pitch.
Defender
Alex Meczarski (Richmond Hill, Ont.) has earned his second straight all-star award, this time landing on the Second-Team. Meczarski led the Rams central defence, showcasing his ability for timely tackles and winning balls in the air. His ability to clear balls from danger helped keep the back line calm under pressure.
The fifth and final player to earn all-star status is
Faisal Ghaffur (Mississauga, Ont.) after his first season in the OUA. His solid midfield play was on display in the 11 games he played in, and his knack for controlling the pace of play and distributing the ball to his strikers for scoring opportunities was apparent.
