WINDSOR, Ont. - Despite 37 shots through 67 minutes of play, the Ryerson Rams failed to find a goal and fell 1-0 in a shootout against the Windsor Lancers on Saturday night.
Garrett Forrest (Ashburn, Va.) had a busy first period, stopping all 12 of Windsor's shots. The Rams matched the Lancers with 12 shots of their own, but failed to find a goal.Â
The Rams got the better of Windsor in the second, doubling their shots on goal to 24 while holding the Lancers to 19. A pair of Windsor slashing penalties came and went, and the game remained deadlocked at zero.Â
The third embodied literal back and forth hockey, with teams trading odd-man rushes.
Aaron Hyman (Calgary, Alta.) was a hero late in the game after blocking a powerplay shot destined for the open net. When all was said and done in regulation, the game was off to overtime.Â
Seven minutes of 3-on-3 hockey went by with no pucks crossing the goal line.
Matt Mistele (Whitby, Ont.) made a huge individual effort, but was foiled by Windsor netminder Jonathan Reinhart. Both Reinhart and Forrest secured well-deserved shutouts.
Windsor grabbed two quick ones in the shootout. Mistele and
Devon Paliani (LaSalle, Ont.) could not convert on their attempts, and the match was sealed for Windsor.Â
After securing a point tonight against the Lancers, Ryerson finishes their road trip and will return to Mattamy Home Ice on Friday night against Laurentian at 7:15 p.m.Â
