Game Recap: Soccer (M) | | Emile Riga

Early goal sees Rams fall 1-0 to Ravens

OTTAWA - The Ryerson Rams men's soccer team lost just their second game of the season to the Carleton Ravens on Saturday.

The match took place at MNP Park on the Ravens' home turf where they quickly found their rhythm and capitalized early. Ravens forward Quinn Honeyman-Wootton found the net in the seventh minute after Rams keeper Ali Ghazanfari (Stouffville, Ont.) failed to catch a corner kick after controversially receiving contact from Carleton players.

The Rams regained momentum and created a number of chances later in the first half. The second half consisted of many opportunities for both sides but each goalkeeper stood strong, including an impressive performance from Ghazanfari with seven saves. Rams wingers/wing-backs Luca Di Marco (Aurora, Ont.) and Kai Martin (Toronto) also displayed strong performances, causing many troubles for the opposition.

This Rams loss confirms the OUA East first-place finish for the Ravens, while the Rams and Varsity Blues will each play one more game to determine who will finish in the top two standings, and who will finish third and have to play an extra OUA playoff round.

Both teams play this Sunday at the same time, so each team will feel the urgent need to collect all three points from their matches. The Varsity Blues face-off against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks who have only lost twice this season and the Rams will take on the Nippissing Lakers who are looking to secure a fifth-place playoff spot.

As it stands, both Toronto schools are tied with 29 points but the Rams are claiming second place due to their 1-0-1 record against Toronto.

It will certainly be a nail-biting decision-day in the OUA East, especially for the Ryerson Rams who will kick-off at Downsview Park against Nipissing at 3 p.m ET.
