Rams cruise past Nipissing in last game of regular season

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men's soccer team played their last game of the season on Sunday, securing a 5-0 win over the Nipissing Lakers.

After falling to the Carleton Ravens 1-0 the day before, the Rams were tied with the Varsity Blues in the OUA East standings at 29 points. With each team playing their last game on of the regular-season on Sunday afternoon, the Rams came out strong and were very much looking for a win.

Sean Fafinski (Toronto) opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a screamer from long range. Rams veterans Venizelos Koutsoulianos (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and Arya Hemati (Vaughan, Ont.) found the back of the net as well in the 19th and 44th minute to make it 3-0 at half time.

The Rams opened up the second half with two quick goals by Tomas Castaldo (Toronto) and Yuri Costa (Rio De Janeiro). Ryerson would later slow the game down and keep possession to see the game out.

The Rams also celebrated Senior Day for five seniors, including two goals scorers on the day Hemati and Koutsoulianos. Koutsoulianos spoke about his years at Ryerson, saying, "Amazing. It's been a long journey. You can see the program moving forward every year."

The other three senior honorees were Ali Ghazanfari (Stouffville, Ont.), Nathaniel Tambakis (Toronto) and Muaz Saleh (Hamilton, Ont.).

Rams head coach Filip Prostran also spoke about the special day and its importance saying, "Senior Day is really a culmination of all their time with us. Sometimes it doesn't do it justice that it is just a small presentation."

With today's win, the Rams solidified their second place ranking in the OUA East and will receive a bye past the first round of playoffs. Stay tuned for more info on Ryerson's playoff match times.
