TORONTO - The No. 6 Ryerson men's soccer team clinched a 3-1 win against U SPORTS No. 2 ranked Carleton Ravens on Saturday afternoon.
Carleton sat at a 10-0 record before this match having only conceded two goals all season.
After intense pressure from the Ravens in the opening 10 minutes, the Rams took over possession and swung momentum back in their favour. Rams forward Kyle Laborde-Ayres (Scarborough, Ont.) opened up the scoring in the 28th minute and found the net again in the 35th minute. Laborde-Ayres now has three goals in three games for the Rams heading into the last stretch of the regular season.
The second half was a long one for the Rams, as the Ravens put on the pressure and were creating chances in abundance. After multiple scares from the Ravens,
Abdallah El-Chanti (Toronto) scored a deflected goal in the 79th minute to seal the huge victory. Finally, Ravens forward Stefan Karajovanovic found the back of the net in extra-time. Rams' central defenders
Alex Meczarski (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and
Antony Curic (Mississauga, Ont.) were pillars in the team's strong defensive performance.
Speaking on Laborde-Ayres' crucial two-goal performance, Rams head coach
Filip Prostran praised his maturity saying, "These games are not too big for him, he doesn't get rattled. The big moments are made for Kyle, and this was obvious today the way he showed up and played."
Laborde-Ayres himself emphasized the team's confidence and the importance of it, adding, "We're feeling really good right now, I think we're at our highest point, and we're still locked in and focused on our game next week."
Laborde-Ayres was referring to the rematch against the Ravens on Saturday, October 19th at 3:15 p.m. that will take place at MNP Park in the nation's capital.
