No. 3 Bold Fourth-Quarter Surge Seals 83-60 Win at Guelph

GUELPH, Ont. — Powered by a standout performance from their backcourt, the No. 3 nationally ranked Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team improved to 17-2 on the season Thursday with an 83-60 road victory over the Guelph Gryphons at the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre.

Myriam Kone led the way with a game-high 22 points on 11-of-18 shooting, consistently finishing through contact inside and hitting shots from mid-range. Catrina Garvey added 20 points, including three three-pointers and multiple impressive drives to the basket on 8-of-17 shooting.

While Kone and Garvey provided the scoring punch, Hailey Franco DeRyck made her impact felt everywhere else. The third-year forward posted game highs of 14 rebounds and six blocks, along with nine points, asserting herself on both ends of the floor.

TMU set the tone early, opening efficiently and building a 21-14 lead after the first quarter. The Bold controlled the second, outscoring Guelph 22-15 to take a 43-29 advantage into halftime. Although Guelph trimmed the deficit slightly in the third quarter, TMU stayed composed, entering the fourth with a 57-45 lead. The Bold then put the game out of reach, erupting for 26 points on 71.4 percent shooting in the final quarter, outscoring the Gryphons by 11.

Contributions came from all areas of the roster, as the TMU bench added 18 points to round out a complete team effort. Overall, the Bold shot 52.4 percent from the field and forced 20 turnovers, converting them into 24 points.

Next up, TMU faces the Waterloo Warriors at the Physical Athletics Complex in Waterloo, Ont., on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 4 p.m. Fans can watch the action on OUA.tv.
