WINDSOR, Ont. — Powered by a dominant performance from goaltender
Katie Frost, the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team earned a 4-1 road victory over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday night.
Frost stopped 46 of 47 shots, narrowly missing her first career OUA shutout as the Lancers finally scored in the final minute of the third period.
Alizee LeBlanc also stood out for the Bold, recording three assists on the night.
The Bold opened the scoring seven minutes into the first period when
Britni Yammine finished a pass from Alizée's sister,
Jade LeBlanc, firing the puck short side into the top corner. TMU doubled their lead at 12:21 when
Ahalya Julien-Medeiros netted a power-play goal, threading the puck past two Lancer defenders with assists from
Alizee LeBlanc and
Neely Van Volsen. Both teams matched each other in shots during the first period, with 12 apiece.
In the second period, Windsor took control offensively, outshooting the Bold 17-6; but Frost was up to the challenge, making several key saves to keep TMU ahead 2-0 at the second intermission.
The third period saw the Bold maintain their advantage despite being outshot 18-6.
Neely Van Volsen extended the lead less than a minute into the frame, finishing a slick move on the Lancer netminder after a pass from
Alizee LeBlanc. Later, at 12:09,
Megan Bergmanis capitalized on a Lancer turnover, going backhand to forehand to make it 4-0, giving
Alizee LeBlanc her third assist of the night. Windsor scored in the final minute, and both teams showed some physicality as they closed out the game, but TMU held on for the 4-1 win.
