Folkes Scores Twice in TMU's Narrow Defeat to Queen's

KINGSTON, Ont. — Coming off a split weekend, the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's soccer team hit the windy Richardson Stadium pitch hoping to come out victorious against the Queen's Gaels. In a tight contest, the Bold fell to the Gaels, 3-2.

Bold first-year Telaijah Folkes produced a stellar performance, leading TMU with two goals.

The Bold began the game slightly timid, as the Gaels, who were coming off a 2-0 first OUA regular season weekend, asserted their dominance. Securing numerous corner kicks, Queen's seized on these opportunities, Payton Wynn netting one in the eighth minute.

Awoken by the Gaels lead, the Bold looked to make some offensive advances. TMU's Elisa Paolucci worked hard in the net to try and prevent the Gaels from making it a two-goal game. In the 31st minute, Folkes scored a rebound goal to tie things up.

After battling back-and-forth, the Gaels broke the tie late in the first, with Victoria Hawkins slipping one in to make it a 2-1 game.

Eager to level the score once again, the Bold came out strong to start the second half. Assisted by Aalayah Lully, Folkes charged forward to score a beautiful goal in the 55th minute, making it a 2-2 game.

With the game all tied up, both teams were bringing their full force. The Bold saw potential looks from both Taylor Fazzari and Taliyah Walker, but couldn't convert them to goals. TMU's defensive line also stepped up, trying to prevent the Gaels from sneaking through.

In the intense ten minutes of final play, with tensions high, the ball slipped through the fingers of Paolucci's hands and made its way past the goal line, resulting in a 3-2 Queen's win.

The loss didn't overshadow the Bold's display of determination and ability to keep composed when down. Their promising young core continues to step up and meet the challenges of OUA play.

The Bold will take a day of rest before suiting up against the RMC Paladins on Sunday, Sept. 5. Game time in Kingston Ont. is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
