OSHAWA, Ont. – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold fell 3-2 in overtime against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on the road on Friday night. Despite holding the lead for most of the game, TMU was unable to close things out, as Ontario Tech rallied late to force overtime and ultimately secure the win.
TMU got off to a strong start, opening the scoring at 14:42 of the first period. With the Bold on the power play,
Eden Dusome found the back of the net on a rebound attempt with
Emily Baxter and
Cailey Davis producing the assists. The lead didn't last long, however, as Ontario Tech responded in the final seconds of the period to even things up.
The second period saw TMU reclaim the lead almost immediately. Just 59 seconds in,
Kayla Kondo struck for an even-strength goal, once again set up by Davis and Baxter. The Bold controlled much of the period, successfully killing off a penalty and limiting Ontario Tech's offensive chances. Heading into the third, TMU held onto their 2-1 advantage and looked poised to claim the victory.
However, Ontario Tech refused to go away. As the clock ticked down in regulation, TMU remained in front until the final minutes, when the Ridgebacks found the equalizer with just 90 seconds remaining. With momentum shifting, Ontario Tech carried their energy into overtime.
Alexia Stratos, who made 31 saves in the game, delivered multiple outstanding saves in the extra frame before Ontario Tech recorded the winner.
The Bold will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Kingston, Ont. against the Queen's Gaels. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Centre. Watch the contest on OUA.tv.
