TORONTO – The No. 10 ranked Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team took the quick trip over to Bloor and St. George to face the University of Toronto (U of T) Varsity Blues on Thursday morning. Puck drop was at 11 a.m. because it was the Varsity Blues school day game.
The Varsity Blues got on the board early on but it didn't take long for the Bold to catch up. Joseph Iannello sniped the puck from the point allowing
Ian Martin to tip in the tying goal in the first period.
The rest of the period was aggressive on both sides, and the rivalry was evident on the ice. They quickly wrapped up and the Bold prepared for the second period.Â
Going into the second, the Bold were on the wrong side of the calls for the majority of the period and received many penalties.
The Varsity Blues were given several opportunities on the powerplay and scored two goals late in the period.
In the third period, the Bold ramped up the pressure, trying to get back into the game. Going up and down the ice, the Bold did a good job at pressing the Varsity Blues into their zone.Â
William Portokalis scored the Bold's second goal of the game, cutting into the lead and giving the Bold a chance to tie it up.Â
The Bold exhausted their last few minutes, hoping to tie the game but were unsuccessful.
In the last minute of the third, the Varsity Blues managed to slide the puck into an empty net to make it a 4-2 game for the Blues.Â
The Bold fell short by two in this matchup but will look to bounce back on Saturday, February 8 against the Waterloo Warriors. Puck drop is at 2:15 pm and students can get in for free using their OneCard.Â
