TORONTO — The No. 10 ranked Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team bounced back and defeated the York Lions, 69-49, making a statement after falling short to the Lions last weekend. The Bold have officially clinched first place in the OUA Central Division, earning a first-round bye in the playoffs.
TMU's
Kaillie Hall produced a 20-point performance using her veteran skills to help the Bold secure their first-place position.
Looking to shift their approach from their last matchup against York, the Bold aimed to try and get an early advantage.
Catrina Garvey kicked things off, netting a 3-pointer. Hall also maneuvered through defensive traffic to create open space under the basket and behind the arc.Â
Similar to their last match up, York began to creep up on the Bold, shrinking the gap. Determined to net let York get the lead, the Bold snuck away with the lead after the first quarter, 15-13.
In the second quarter, TMU channeled their energy into extending their lead.
Jayme Foreman went on an offensive run, knocking down multiple impressive 3-pointers. Garvey continued to excel, scoring six straight points. She finished the game with 13 points overall.
The Bold outscored the Lions 20-9 in the second quarter, pushing them to a 35-22 lead at the end of the first half.
With York hopeful to make a comeback and the Bold committed to defending their lead, both teams brought high energy in the second half.Â
Haley Fedick muscled her way through the paint, getting off shots and grabbing key rebounds. She finished the game with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Foreman maintained her shooting momentum, ending the game with 17 points. The Bold held their ground, finishing the third quarter still ahead, 53-37.
In the fourth quarter, the Bold's performance clicked and their ball movement took center stage. TMU delivered some beautiful plays, such as Garvey's assist to Hall off a fast break.Â
The Bold's energy remained high until the very end.
Hailey Franco DeRyck made her mark on the court, grabbing nine rebounds and driving toward the rim.Â
TMU ended victorious, taking the 20-point victory over York, 69-49.
