TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's basketball team earned a dominant 108-71 victory over the York Lions on Wednesday night, besting their crosstown rival for the second time in as many games.
Javier Gilgeous-Glasgow led the Bold with a career-high 32 points, stepping up in the absence of the OUA's leading scorer,
Aaron Rhooms. The 108 points are the third-most scored by TMU in an away game in program history.
TMU came out strong, building a solid lead early with a 25-14 first quarter. They maintained their dominance throughout the game, outscoring York in every quarter. A standout second quarter saw the Bold shoot 76.5 percent from the field, extending their lead to 60-35 by halftime.
Gilgeous-Glasgow was incredibly efficient, connecting on 13-of-17 attempts from the field, and adding five assists.
Maxime Louis-Jean contributed 13 points, knocking down three 3-pointers, while
Michael Kayembe added nine points. TMU showcased its depth, with the bench providing 42 points in the win.
Defensively, TMU forced 17 turnovers and capitalized with 29 points off those mistakes. They also dominated on the boards, securing 42 rebounds compared to York's 34.
With the win, the Bold improve to 14-7 and secure home-court advantage for their playoff opener on Wednesday, February 19, at 7 p.m. Their opponent in the first round is to be determined based on what takes place in the OUA this weekend.
