PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's volleyball team closed out the 2025 portion of the season with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 27-25) sweep of the Trent University Excalibur on Saturday afternoon.
William Gimbert led the way with 15 kills, hitting .308.
Riley Donovan contributed 12 kills and an ace, and
Ross Buchanan added 10 kills and four blocks. Setter
Declan Dunn paced the offence with a career-high 40 assists.
The opening set was a tense back-and-forth battle, featuring 13 ties and several late lead changes. TMU found rhythm through multiple kills by Donovan and
Aidan Suttie, with Gimbert delivering in key moments. Facing multiple set points, the Bold responded and forced two Trent attack errors to take the set 28-26.
Set two followed a similar pattern, with long rallies and constant pressure. The Excalibur stayed close, but Dunn's steady distribution helped TMU pull ahead late, with Donovan and Gimbert recording crucial kills to secure a 25-23 win.
The third set was the tightest of the match, with 15 ties and no team leading by more than two for much of the frame. Trailing 23-22, TMU regrouped and turned to Gimbert, who delivered multiple kills, including the game-winner, after a diving dig by
Ross Buchanan set up Dunn's final assist.
The Bold return home with a straight-sets victory and will next take the court on Jan. 3, 2026, for an exhibition against Princeton at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
