Edmonds Shines as Bold Keep Badgers Scoreless

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold claimed a 3-0 victory against the Brock University Badgers on Saturday afternoon.

This game gives the Bold their fourth win this season and also gives them a four-game win streak. The Bold have been on a roll, and the rough start at the beginning of the season has been long forgotten.

In the first period, the Bold got off to a quick start. The Bold are a fast-paced team that continuously dictates the tempo of a game, keeping their opponents under constant pressure.

With an early period penalty called on TMU forward Gavin Grudner, the Bold held a fortified front and, with the steady presence of goaltender Kai Edmonds, turned shots away and cleared out of their offensive zone.

The Bold went on the power play with five minutes left in the period. On the power play, Aleks Dimovski sent a pass from the blue line to Grudner at the goal line. As Grudner tried to set up the pass, the puck took a lucky deflection off the skate of a Badger, giving TMU their first goal of the game.

The Bold, almost immediately after, found themselves back on the power play. It was an opportunity they didn't waste. Off a pass from Joseph Ianniello, Carter McAdams found himself in front of the net and scored through the five hole.

The first frame ended 2-0 after back-to-back power play goals.

The Bold carried the positive momentum into the second period, with Marko Djordjevic scoring a little over a minute into the period. William Portokalis took a shot and Djordjevic secured the rebound to widen the score gap for TMU.

The middle period featured quite a few penalties, on both sides and demonstrated how special teams would dictate the outcome of this game. Despite the previous goals on the power play, the Bold were unable to capitalize on the power play in the next two frames. However, the Bold stopped every effort from the Badgers. Edmonds does incredibly well in high-pressure situations, and he continues to be the goalie he's been throughout his whole career: a solid force.

With five minutes left, there was a near goal for the Badgers, however, the net was off the post.

The middle stanza ended 3-0.

The Bold entered the third continuing to push. Early in this frame there were penalties called on the Bold resulting in a brief 5-on-3 situation. However, the Bold, once again, played a strong special teams game and provided a clean sheet, successfully shutting down every man advantage Brock had in the game.

Edmonds had an unbelievable game, recording his fourth career OUA shutout, saving 29 shots.

The matchup came to a close with TMU totalling 43 shots on goal and securing a 3-0 win.

The Bold will conclude their road trip on Thursday Oct. 30, with a showdown against the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo, Ont. Fans can watch the game on OUA.tv.
