GUELPH, Ont. - Coming off a shutout victory over the Brock Badgers on Friday night, the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team looked to maintain their momentum in a Saturday afternoon showdown against the No. 9 ranked Guelph Gryphons. Unfortunately for the Bold, despite a valiant effort, they fell in a tight battle, 2-1.
Early in the first, the Bold received the game's first power play. With the player advantage,
Ahalya Julien-Medeiros found an open lane to net the Bold's first goal and her third of the season.
The Gryphons spent most of the period trying to get past Bold netminder
Alexia Stratos but they were unsuccessful until the final minute of the period when they scored on the power play.
At the end of the first, the Bold were tied with the Gryphons and had to work hard in the second to break up the tie.
Halfway through the second, the Gryphons managed to secure another goal and take the lead. The rest of the period was scoreless on both sides and the Bold had 20 minutes remaining to catch up on the scoreboard.
Britni Yammine did a good job of moving the puck up the ice and creating chances in front of the net.
The Bold still put up a strong fight, keeping possession of the puck throughout the third and making sure to put up a wall in front of Stratos. With a minute left of play, head coach
Lisa Haley called a timeout for the final push.
The Bold could not tie up the score and left with a 2-1 loss from their second stop on the road trip.
The Bold will be back in the city this week to take on the University of Toronto (U of T) Varsity Blues in a subway series at U of T on Thursday, January 30. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 pm and can be viewed on OUA.tv..
