OTTAWA — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's soccer team was unable to scratch out a fifth win to their storied start to the campaign on Sunday, falling 4-1 to the No. 2 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees in the nation's capital.
TMU's defense — a unit that conceded just four goals and shined brightest through the team's 4-1-1 start to the season — was not immune to the Gee Gees' OUA-leading offense on Sunday.
Maya Smith propelled Ottawa ahead of the Bold with a pair of goals in the first half. The third-year defender pierced the bottom-right corner of TMU netminder
Elisa Paolucci's goal from the penalty spot before adding a second to her total in the 20th minute.
Ottawa's Jenna Matsukubo and Cassandra Provost helped put the game out of TMU's reach in the early stages of the second half with strong individual runs to land their second and seventh goals of the season, respectively.
Natalie Moynihan curled a corner kick across the Gee Gees' goal line in the 63rd minute to cut the Bold's deficit to three, but could not inject the life required to kickstart TMU's late comeback in the defeat.
The Bold will look to carry some of the positives from Sunday's loss into a home matchup with the Carleton Ravens next week, with the biggest pull revolving around the team's ability to find the scoresheet against the best defensive team in the province.
TMU's date with the Ravens is set to kick off next Saturday at 1 p.m. and can be streamed live on OUA.tv.
