TORONTO – Not even a little rain could stop the Bold from shining Saturday afternoon, as the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's soccer team claimed a decisive 3-0 victory over the Royal Military College (RMC) Paladins.
The Bold entered the match determined to secure a win after playing to a scoreless 0-0 draw on the road against Ontario Tech on Sunday.
The first half started with back-and-forth play between the teams with both RMC and TMU pushing hard. Forward
Taliyah Walker put pressure on the offensive end, looking for a Bold goal.
RMC generated a few shot opportunities but goalie
Abby Harrison defended the net with three saves, including a notable punch over the crossbar towards the end of the first half.
Walker's offensive push finally paid off with a breakaway goal in the 45th minute to send the Bold into the halftime break up 1-0.
Going into the second half, TMU stayed hungry and in the 50th minute, Walker scored her first penalty shot of the season, growing the gap to 2-0.
For the remainder of the second half, the Bold continued to push hard. First-year midfielder
Ella Corzato came off the bench for her OUA debut and scored from distance before the full-time whistle to secure the 3-0 win for the Bold.
"It's excellent, we were able to get a lot of the girls that haven't gotten their minutes that they're looking for. We saw the goal Ella scored and how much it meant to her, so we hope that she builds on that and that she has the confidence to go and do it again," said coach John Yacou.
When asked about what drove her to shoot, Corzato said, "I saw the goalie coming out a bit so I kinda just envisioned it and I just went for it."
The Bold hope the strong win will give them a boost when they play against the No. 2 ranked team in the country, the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees, on Sunday, Sept. 21 in Ottawa.
"The fact that we finished our chances today was important, a big confidence boost going into Ottawa," said Walker.
The Bold, now 4-1-1 on the season, will play their contest against Ottawa at 1 p.m. in the nation's capital. Watch the match on
