Bold back to .500 with Fourth-Straight Win

GUELPH, Ont. - After beginning the season 0-3, the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) men's hockey team have rattled off five wins in their last six contests, beating the Guelph Gryphons 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Bold are tied for the OUA East lead with six wins after the seventh weekend of action.

A continuing trend throughout this season, early penalty problems put the Bold on their back foot early yet again. Despite being short handed six times, the Bold powerplay would not concede on special teams. Even with their power play woes Guelph would get on the board first, striking just over halfway through the period. Similar to last night's contest, the Bold would quickly equalize, this time via Julian Fantino. Fantino would beat the Gryphons net minder with a seeing-eye shot off the draw, giving the Bold a positive result despite being out-shot 14-6 in the period.

Kai Edmonds, earning his second consecutive start, was solid despite the short rest. Despite a slow start this season, Edmonds has quietly had an impressive run of form. He finished this afternoon's contest with 40 saves on 41 shots.

Aleks Dimovski would put the Bold ahead just under five minutes into the second. Dimovski roofed a backhand just under the Guelph crossbar. After initially being waved off, the goal would count after consultation, putting the Bold up 2-1.

Ian Martin would give the Bold a much needed insurance marker just over five minutes into the third. His fourth goal of the season came off a great individual effort, picking the pocket of a Guelph defender at centre ice and ripping a shot past the Guelph net minder.

Just 36 seconds later, Daniil Grigorev would ice the game for the Bold potting a Chris Playfair feed on a two-on-one. The Bold added a fifth after Martin found Conor Bowie with a slick aerial pass to spring him on a breakaway, cementing the 5-1 scoreline.

The Bold begin a four game home stand on November 15th with a 6:15 puck drop against the Windsor Lancers. TMU students receive free admission to home games with their OneCard. Stream all home games on OUA.tv.
