Bold Register Dominant Win Over Guelph

TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's basketball team dominated the Guelph Gryphons with an 80-50 win on Wednesday night.

The Bold took control quickly making it difficult for the Gryphons to sink a basket.

Andrejs Silconoks played his fifth game with the Bold and recorded six points tonight, following two back-to-back dunks on the Gryphons net.

After the first quarter, the Bold topped the Gryphons with a score of 23-9.

The Gryphons struggled to get into the double digits until later in the second quarter.

Head coach Dave DeAveiro has been pushing his team in practice to focus more on defence, and his coaching style of defence is the team's identity.

"That's who we want to be, that's our identity, that's our DNA, that's our culture. So anytime we kind of slide a little bit or lose track a little bit, we're always reminded of who we want to be," said Aveiro.

By halftime, the Bold kept busy on the court with a score of 42-25.

Javier Gilgeous Glasgow had a high-scoring night with 12. The guard was quick against the Gryphons, capitalizing on his chances.

"For two hours straight, all we do is focus on is defence. The defense wins games. That's what did it for us," said Gilgeous Glasgow.

Maxime Louis-Jean and Elijah Roye teamed up to rack up rebounds and dunks throughout the game.

The Gryphons tried to close the gap in the third quarter and were unsuccessful.

The Bold continued to cycle around the three-point line, winding down the shot clock and giving the Gryphons less time to work with.

Before going into the final quarter of the game, the Bold were up 67-35, it was all about having a clean finish.

Aaron Rhooms was not only collecting points tonight but also on defence tonight blocking the Gryphons.

The team's hard work has not gone unnoticed by their coaching staff.

"I love my team, they're young and they're gonna make a lot of mistakes, but I love them because they just work really, really hard," said Averio.

In the end, the Bold came out with a clean win of 80-50 against the Guelph Gryphons.

"We could never be satisfied. Every team's good. They gave us a great game today. They're a well-coached team, and we had to earn this win today, and that's what we did," added Gilgeous Glasgow.

The Bold will be back on the court on November 13th at 8 p.m. against the Western Mustangs. Watch on OUA.tv or click here to purchase tickets. Students get in free with their OneCard.
