Bold Fall to Lancers in Shootout

TORONTO - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team closed its fall season with a special game. The team honoured Jess Pollard's mother with the Huntington's Disease Awareness game.

Jess Pollard and her family took part in a ceremonial puck drop, and have been raising funds to support the cause.

The Bold took on the Windsor Lancers for the second time this season after coming out with a shootout win the last time. This time around, the Lancers took the win with a 1-0 shootout.

The Bold started strong, keeping the puck well out of their zone, and firing pucks at the Lancers' net.

Shots on goal by the end of the game were 35 for the Bold and 34 for the Lancers.

Alexia Stratos recorded a shutout in regulation time.

Head coach Lisa Haley is proud of the effort Stratos has put up in the past couple of games.

"She's very calm in the net even in a tight game like this. We didn't give her any insurance whatsoever, and she's still able to hold us in a great spot and give us a chance to win every night and we like her mental and physical game right now," said Haley.

There were many penalties on the Bold, but they did a quick job of killing it.

The score at the end of the first intermission was 0-0.

Going into the second period, the Bold hoped to keep the pucks away from their zone, and they did exactly that.

Defenseman Dayle Chinnick made it difficult for the Lancers to get past her with several key blocks.

"I would say we were really aggressive. we didn't give them that much time and space," said Chinnick.

By the end of the second, neither team had secured the first goal of the game, making this a tight match.

The third was a battle between the two teams, where the Bold struggled to stay out of the penalty box, but Haley appreciated the team's ability to kill all the penalties today.

"I'm happy that we're able to hold down the fort and that's the best part of taking penalties, is that you kill them off successfully," said Haley.

Both teams fought hard to keep the other from scoring, and it led to a 0-0 game at the end of regulation.

Going into overtime, the Bold and Lancers both had many chances. The Bold had to kill a penalty and were successful.

By the end of overtime, neither team had scored and it all came down to a shootout. During the shootout, each team took three attempts. Where the Bold were unable to score any, the Lancers netted one to secure the win.

"This one stings a little bit. It was a tight game the whole way through. I thought we had a pretty good start and feels like a missed opportunity to not get a couple up on the board in the first period," said Haley.

The Bold have closed out their fall season and will be back on the ice in the new year when they battle Carleton in Ottawa on January 10. Watch the contest on OUA.tv.
