Bold Fall to Nationally-Ranked Warriors

TORONTO — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team came up short to the No. 5-nationally-ranked Waterloo Warriors on Friday night.

In the first period, the Bold worked hard to defend Waterloo's aggressive offense. Saving a total of 20 shots on goal in the period, TMU goalie Alexia Stratos kept the net on lock in the first.

Coach Lisa Haley acknowledged Stratos' strong performance as the Bold netminder recorded a season-high 44 saves. "I think Stratos does a great job at being able to be mentally resilient in a game like that. I think obviously you want to be able to make every save but I thought if there was one that got by her she was able to lock back in and be ready for the next save."

The Bold were presented with a power play six minutes into the game but unfortunately couldn't capitalize.

Late in the first, the Warriors finally bested Stratos and netted a powerplay goal, ending the period up 1-0.

The Bold struggled to find shot opportunities in the second period, putting their energy into their defense.

Waterloo continued controlling the play on the ice putting pressure on Stratos.

The Warriors successfully snuck the puck in to double their lead, scoring at 8:47 in the second. They followed up not long afterward with another goal at 11:56.

With tensions building on the ice, the Bold were eager to generate a goal. Gaby Gareau sniped in a slap shot at 15:49. The second ended with Waterloo up 3-1.

Waterloo continued to stay steady in the third period and scored two more goals to seal the win, 5-1.

The Bold will finish off their first semester of play by hosting the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Before their next game, Coach Haley aims to reassess their special teams, "They scored a powerplay goal on us and they also scored a short handed goal. I think special teams can really drive the outcome of the game so we'll definitely look into that tomorrow before our last game of the semester against Windsor."

The puck drop is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Come support the Bold live at the MAC. Admission is free for all TMU students with their OneCard.
