Bold Fall to Gryphons

TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team finally returned to home ice after a long road trip and lost to the Guelph Gryphons 5-1 on Friday night.

In the first period, the Bold collected two penalties, but their penalty kill was strong, building a wall in front of goalie Ryan Dugas.

In the last two minutes of the first period, Daniil Grigorev caught a breakaway and rushed toward the Gryphon's net and fired in the puck.

The Bold came out in the second period up by one and hoped to extend their lead.

After a slow start to the second period, the Gryphons took many shots and landed one in the back of the net six minutes into the period.

The Bold's top line hoped to come back after but a quick turnaround from the Gryphons led to their second goal of the game.

With a minute left in the period, the Gryphons scored again, leaving the Bold chasing for the lead.

Going into the third period the Bold were down by two but the two teams weren't done yet.

The entire third period was busy with both teams serving penalties back and forth for roughing.

The Gryphons served three penalties in a row, one being a ten-minute misconduct for head contact.

The rest of the period, the Gryphons recorded two more goals, and the game ended with some high intensity as many players were ejected from the game.

"We just thought it wasn't good tonight, top to bottom. Special teams weren't good, our discipline wasn't good, our goaltending wasn't good, our coaching obviously wasn't good enough," said Bold head coach Johnny Duco.

Captain Chris Playfair talked about the team's goals for tomorrow after tonight's loss.

"I think for this one, you let the coach do the talking and let the emotion settle down. Everyone's disappointed, but we play tomorrow at 4 pm so we have to flip the switch quickly and get back in the mindset that we got to win a game tomorrow.

Duco hopes the team can change things around tomorrow. "We've got to play a full 60 minutes. We have to be more disciplined, and we have to find a way to come away with points. We're a desperate hockey team that needs to start playing like it."

The Bold will head on the road tomorrow to face the Warriors Warriors at 4 p.m. Watch the game on OUA.tv.
