TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team dominated on the defensive end, cruising to a 59-45 win over the University of Toronto (U of T) Varsity Blues at the Metro Hoops Classic.
The Bold held the Varsity Blues to only 31.7 percent from the field and 5.3 percent from three-point range (1-for-19). TMU also won the turnover battle, committing only 13 compared to 23 by U of T.
Kaillie Hall led all scorers with 21 points. She was one of three TMU players to record double figures as
Catrina Garvey added 12 and
Lauryn Meek netted 10.
Kait Nichols collected a game-high nine rebounds.
Seven of Hall's 21 points came in the first quarter as she helped power the Bold to a 17-14 lead after the opening frame. Tired of a close contest, the Bold ramped up the defensive pressure in the second quarter. They forced 11 turnovers in the period and outscored the Varsity Blues 26-16 to take a 39-24 lead into the halftime break.
TMU did not look back after breaking open the big lead as they played a competitive second half to earn a double-digit victory.
The Bold will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2 for their home opener against the Algoma Thunderbirds. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. Watch the contest on OUA.tv or purchase tickets
