Bold's Hot Start Nullified in Home Draw with Ridgebacks

TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's soccer team earned a point against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Wednesday in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Downsview Park.

The draw, which was felt by TMU's players as more of a loss following the game, puts the Bold's chances at securing the top spot in the OUA East in jeopardy and ends a three-game winning streak for the group ahead of their final weekend of the regular season.

"Second half, the [Ridgebacks] just wanted it more," said Head Coach of the Bold Filip Prostran following the match.

"It's the exact start you wanted, everything you wanted from a game," said Prostran in reference to his side's two-goal showing in the first 45 minutes of action on Wednesday.

"It's just a little bit of desire, a little bit of maturity that we didn't have towards the end. We'll take the lessons and move forward."

The Bold looked primed to take revenge on the Ridgebacks after leaving points on the table when they met in Oshawa in September, using goals from Chris Campoli and Jevontae Layne to build a 2-0 lead before the break.

The Ridgebacks were able to match TMU's first half production with a pair of their offensive chances in the second half despite missing their mark from the penalty spot.

Goals shortly after from Erion Metaj and Alex Irwin helped power the Ridgebacks to a draw and improve their record to 5-4-1.

The comeback marks the third consecutive game in which the Bold have built a lead in the first half, only to watch it get cut into following the break, doing so against Queen's and RMC during the team's final road trip of the regular season.

The Bold will have a chance at getting back onto their winning ways ahead of the playoffs when they take on the Laurentian Voyageurs and Nipising Lakers on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The group's matchup with the Voyageurs kicks off at 3:15 p.m and will be preceded with a ceremony to honour the Bold's set of graduating players.
