KINGSTON, Ont. – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's soccer team were unable to dig themselves out from an early deficit against the Queen's Gaels on Saturday in a frustrating 7-0 shutout defeat to the sixth-ranked team in the nation.
The Gaels' victory over the Bold is just the latest addition to a scorching stretch of play for the Kingston side that improves to 7-1-1 on the season and holds clean-sheet victories in each of their last five contests.
Third-year Seema Sakran helped open the floodgates for the Gaels just four minutes into Saturday's contest, lofting a cross onto the head of a streaking Mattson Strickler in front of the Bold goal to give the home side the lead.
An own goal from Taliyah Walker in the seventh minute derailed the Bold's plans of mustering up a response after an innocent cross towards the middle of the penalty box ricocheted off the third-year's outstretched leg and trickled into the back of her net.
Goals from Clare Sun and Sakran in the 20th and 21st minute respectively slipped the game out of the Bold's reach before the first half whistle rang around Richardson Stadium.
A second goal from Sakran in the 66th minute and a pair shortly after would put a quiet bow on TMU's third loss of the season and drop the team's record to 0-2 against ranked opponents in 2024, having come out without any points against the second-ranked Ottawa Gee Gees in September.
The Bold will welcome a quick trip to RMC - a team they have yet to lose to under interim coach John Yacou - on Sunday in hopes of escaping Kingston with crucial points to put towards playoff seeding in a week's time.
