Bold Fall 6-3 to Ottawa

OTTAWA – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team fell short against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday afternoon, 6-3.

Ottawa dominated the beginning of the game and claimed an early lead, scoring 4:33 into the contest.

TMU ran into penalty struggles, providing the Gee-Gees with numerous power-play opportunities. Ottawa took advantage of this and scored once again 10 minutes into the first, snagging a 2-0 lead.

In the second period, the Bold seemed determined to make up for the first. Julian Fantino scored a goal 39 seconds into the second frame, providing TMU with momentum.

In a back-and-forth second period, Ottawa was presented with another power-play opportunity and secured a goal to make the score 3-1. However, the Bold had a quick response, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity of their own with a goal by Connor Bowie.

At the end of the second period, TMU's penalty trouble struck again and Ottawa recorded an additional power-play goal to extend their lead to 4-2.

The third period mirrored the start of the second period as the Bold scored an early goal, just 46 seconds into the final frame. Will Portokalis, who had a strong performance with a goal and an assist, produced the goal to make it a 4-3 game.

Despite the Bold's efforts to shrink the gap, their penalty struggles persisted and Ottawa scored a power-play goal once again to extend the lead. The Gee-Gees then sealed their win with an empty-net goal, finishing the game, 6-3.

The Bold will look to regroup ahead of their home opener on Wednesday night against their cross-city rivals, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
