Box Score OTTAWA – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team were unable to overcome an early onslaught from the Carleton Ravens on Friday, dropping their first contest of the 2024-25 season by a 5-1 score.
Connor Bowie lit the lamp for the Bold 92 seconds into their season for the team's first and only goal in the defeat. The Ravens answered with five unanswered goals, including three in the first period alone and an empty-net goal, to complete the comeback over TMU.
Bowie - who acted as a complimentary scoring threat for the Bold with a respectable 10 goals last season - slammed home a cross-ice pass from Kevin Gursoy early in the first frame to provide an auspicious start to the Bold's campaign.
The Ravens were able to rally back in the period with a trio of goals to freeze the visitors' early momentum. Madoka Suzuki landed the first blow for Carleton before getting some help from teammates Will Collins and Nick McCarry, both scoring just a minute apart from one another to tilt the ice in their favour.
Carleton were able to pick apart TMU's Kai Edmonds in his first-career OUA start in his hometown of Ottawa, Ont., with the third-year netminder allowing three goals on nine shots as TMU's early lead began to dissipate.
Edmonds, who set a career-high in wins (15) last season and finished fifth in the OUA in GAA (2.35) was able to rebound nicely in the second, foiling a pair of odd-man-rushes to help guide the Bold towards a much-needed scoreless frame.
The third-year would carry his domination into the early goings of the third period before surrendering a fourth goal to put the game out of TMU's reach despite the 11 minutes remaining in the contest.
The group will have limited time to dwell on Friday's loss to the Ravens as they travel across the city to take on the Ottawa Gee Gees Saturday afternoon. Puck drop is set for 1 p.m.
