New Additions Shine in TMU’s Season-Opening Loss

WINDSOR, Ont. – Fielding a handful of new faces for the first time in 2024, the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's volleyball team fell to the Windsor Lancers in their season-opener on Friday.

Windsor's Aliah Admans and Aryn Markett helped guide the Lancers to a 3-0 sweep over the visitors, combining for 25 kills to take the match 25-19, 27-25 and 25-21.

Scarlett Gingera led the Bold with 12 kills, while offseason signing Hannah Bellai made a memorable debut with her new squad with six kills to help round out the offense for TMU.

First-year middle Rayanna Amos-Ross Fisher started for the Bold and like Bellai, was efficient in her blue and gold debut. She helped earn the visitors a crucial point during a prolonged rally in the team's opening set defeat to leave her mark on a successful first-career match in the OUA.

Making her first official start for the Bold since transferring over from the Varsity Blues in July, Bellai propelled the Bold to their longest run of the match with three kills to jump to a 5-1 lead in the second set.

Trailing the Bold 25-24, the Lancers were able to find late life and ring off three consecutive points, including an ace off from their own baseline, to take a commanding 2-0 lead over the Bold.

Raiya Millin shined for the Lancers in the third and final set with four kills to help hand the Bold their first loss of the season after enduring a season sweep to the Toronto-based side in 2023.

The Bold will look to build on the positive strides from their new additions to the court when they take on the Lancers once more on Saturday.

First serve from Toldo Lancer Centre flies at 1 p.m and can be streamed live on OUA.tv.
