THUNDER BAY, Ont. –
Ian Martin scored two goals and
Matthew Kinash added a goal and two assists to lead the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team to a 5-2 win over the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday night.
Martin opened the scoring early as he redirected a
Jaden Raad shot from the point at 5:33 into the contest to give the Bold a 1-0 lead. Martin from Raad and Portokalis was nearly enough to send the Bold into the first intermission with the lead but the Thunderwolves found the equalizer in the final minute of the frame.
In the second period, TMU opened the floodgates, putting four goals past Lakehead netminder, Christian Cicigoi. Martin tallied his second goal of the game, this time off assists by
Joe Rupoli and
Evan Tanos, while
Jackson Doherty joined the party as he was set up by
Liam Ross and Kinash. Kinash then provided the helper to
Mitch Lafay's first OUA goal before scoring himself.
Connor Bowie earned an assist on Lafay's goal and
Kevin Gursoy and Jaden Candotta connected to find Kinash.
Playing solid defense in front of their goalie,
Ryan Dugas, the Bold allowed only one goal in the third period and cruised to the 5-2 win. Dugas recorded the victory by stopping 34 of 36 shots.
The Bold will battle Lakehead once again, tomorrow night, in Thunder Bay at 7 p.m. Watch the contest on OUA.tv.
